Located in the quiet area of Cape Rosier, this antique log cabin provides the quintessential Maine vacation experience. Sitting just 20ft from and high above the rising tides of Smith Cove, guests can enjoy views of islands and the village of Castine in the distance.

Built in 1912, the cottage has a rustic but comfortable interior; updated modern furnishings provide comfort without losing the cozy antique log cabin feel. The dining room provides guests amazing views of the cove from the large picture window. The best seats in the house can of course be found on the wrap around screened porch, the perfect place to sit and relax or dine on freshly caught lobster while enjoying the salty sea breeze and beautiful surroundings.

Cape Rosier and the surrounding area is full of hidden gems and this cottage is perfectly located for exploring them all. Just minutes away from Holbrook Island Sanctuary, you can spend the day hiking and exploring the many wilderness trails over varying terrain. What our vacationers thought:

memorizing location

The house is in a picture perfect location with steps that leads directly into the ocean at high tide! The swimming was amazing and we spent many hours outside floating in the water utilitizing the toys left by the owner. The views from the porch are just heavenly across the ocean. We spend time exploring Acadia National Park and Blue Hill. We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a true Maine experience. This was the perfect vacation spot for my family we loved it so much we stayed 2 weeks!

An enjoyable stay

This was our second stay at the property; our previous visit was in 2015. The things we especially like about Gull’s View are its location on Smith Cove, the large screened-in porch looking out towards Castine and its overall spaciousness. This is not exactly a remote location, though, and the cars speeding by on this particular section the Cape Rosier Road are something to be mindful of as you come and go. The cottage however lies downhill of the road, so you really don’t hear road noise while you’re sitting on the porch enjoying the view.
The biggest improvement from our previous stay was that a set of stairs to the beach were added. We still felt we should haul up the kayaks during high tide, but at least there is now a way to get DOWN to the water!
Another nice thing is that there are two large bathrooms, each directly adjacent to one of the two bedrooms. And one actually has a tub!
The master bedroom is good-sized, and the two comfortable bunk beds in the second bedroom are fine for kids or for two adults. The second bunk bed does close off the closet in that room, though.
There was a problem with the electrical system related to the air conditioner in the master bedroom when we first arrived, but the owner got back to us quickly and gave us a workaround.
Overall, we would be happy to return.

The running brook was delightful and the porch and view the highlights.
Our house was built in 1918 so we appreciate the camp’s history and ambiance.
Shower was great, kitchen quite adequate.
We’d return.
