How do I make a reservation?

You may make a reservation by submitting a request online through our website or by calling our office. A Rental Agent will then approve your reservation request. We urge you to call or email our office with any questions prior to submitting a reservation request to make sure that the property you have chosen is suitable for you and your needs. Our agents are happy to do the hard work for you and pick out suitable properties choices for you.

What is the rental season?

The rental season in Maine typically runs from June through October. July and August are considered the “high season” months and you will find weekly rental rates will be higher during this time. June, September and October are considered “off season” months during which weekly rental rates are typically reduced. If you’re looking for more bang for your buck considering vacationing in the “off season” which is just as beautiful, September and October especially!

Are there additional taxes and fees?

Our advertised weekly rental rates are all inclusive. This means the price you see is the price you pay! (With the exception of additional Pet Fee)

How do I pay for my reservation?

We prefer payment by personal check but do also accept cash, cashiers/bank checks, money orders and payments via PayPal.

What are my payment options?

Dependent on when your reservation is made, your payment options will differ. If a reservation is made within 90 days of arrival, payment will be due in full. If your reservation is made more than 90 days in advance of your arrival, 50% payment may be made at the time of your reservation and the remaining 50% will be collected 60 days prior to your arrival. If you choose to make more than one payment, a $7.00 installment fee will be added to each payment. If additional payment options are needed we are happy to discuss these personally.

What if I have to cancel my reservation?

The rental season in Maine is very short and because of this we have a very strict cancellation policy. While we look out for the best interest of our Renters, our Homeowners are also our customers. Many of our Homeowners count on the income generated by rentals to keep their property up and running for many seasons to come. If a renter must cancel their reservation, at any time, all monies paid are non-refundable and the Renter will be responsible for paying any remaining balance due on the reservation. Vacation Cottages will make every effort to attempt to re-rent the property for the same time period, for the same amount. If the attempt is successful, the canceling party will be refunded monies paid, minus a 25% cancellation fee.

What happens after I make my reservation?

After your reservation is approved you will be provided with a Rental Agreement to sign and return to finalize the reservation process. Once payment is received in full you will be provided with directions to the property.

Can I come a day earlier or extend my stay?

This is generally not possible. Rental schedules during the high season are strictly adhered to. If at the time of your arrival or departure the cottage is not rented we would be happy to offer to add extra days to your stay.

Can I have overnight guest?

Yes, although all guests must be approved by Vacation Cottages prior to their arrival. It is best that you inform us when you make your reservation if you expect additional overnight guests. The number of overnight guest cannot exceed the maximum occupancy limits at any time.

When is check-in/check-out?

Check in is no earlier than 4:00PM on the arrival day. Check-out is no later than 10:00AM on the departure day.

How far is the nearest airport?

Bangor International Airport is approximately 1 hour away from most of our rental properties. The Portland Jet Port is approximately 3 hours away from most of our rental properties.

Can I bring my pet?

Many of our rentals are pet friendly. Due to allergies, at this time we can only accept dogs, no cats or small animals. All pets must be approved by Vacation Cottages and the Homeowner prior to your arrival. It is best if you inform us if you wish to bring your pet when you make your reservation. An additional non-refundable pet fee will be applied to your reservation. You will also need to agree to the pet policy outlined in the rental agreement. You will be responsible for everything your pet dies at the cottage.

Do I need to bring linens?

No! All our rental properties are supplied with linens. This includes bedding and towels. You may want to bring along your own large beach towels, favorite blanket or pillow.

What should I bring with me on vacation?

We provide starter supplies of toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, dish detergent, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, trash bags, and dishwasher tabs. Whatever supplies are needed beyond these are to be supplied by the renter. You will want to bring food, toiletries, medications, clothing for all conditions (sunny, cool, windy, rainy etc.)

Are Renters responsible for bringing/filling propane tanks for the grill?

No, if you find the gas tank is empty call and we will arrange for a fill up. Many Homeowners keep a spare tank for this purpose. If you replace the tank on the grill with the spare please let us know so we can fill the empty tank.

Are Renters responsible for bringing /providing their own wood for fireplaces/firepits?

Some Homeowners provide wood at the beginning of the season and when it’s gone, it’s gone; other will supply wood for the entire season while others not at all. Wood is readily available at numerous roadside stands or local stores. We ask that you DO NOT bring firewood from home as it is illegal in Maine because it encourages the spread of invasive insects.

Are kayaks/canoes/bikes provided at the rental property?

No. Our rentals do not come equipped with boats or bikes. If you wish to rent these, we would be happy to point you in the right direction.

Is smoking permitted at any of your rental properties?

No. All of our rental properties are smoke-free.

What if I leave something behind?

That’s ok! Our cleaners will find it when they perform their turnover clean. They will bag it and tag it and return it to our office, we will then contact you to arrange return of the item(s) by mail. Shipping fees may be applied.

I love the rental I stayed at! Can I come back again next year?

Yes! We love repeat renters! Contact our office to talk with an agent about setting up a reservation for next season.
